National coach Hansi Flick has reaffirmed his expectations of the national players before the international three-pack and with a view to the home European Championship.
However, he did not go into detail again about the warning given in a newspaper interview to the non-nominated BVB defender Niklas Süle (27).
“We expect them to be able to go beyond the limit and sometimes suffer a little,” said Flick one day before the international charity match on Monday (6 p.m. / ZDF) in Bremen against Ukraine. “For us, every international match is to find the eleven that will start on June 14 next year.” Then the home European Championship 2024 begins in Munich. On Friday, the DFB selection will visit Poland, followed by the game on June 20 in Gelsenkirchen against Colombia.
Fitness as a basis
“If we are preparing for the Euro, then it is important and the basis that every single player is in top form,” said Flick. “That’s what we expect. When the basis of fitness is laid, a lot is possible.”
In an interview with the “Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung”, Flick said that he thinks Süle “is still leaving a lot behind” and could “take a step forward in his attitude, in his mentality”. On Sunday, Flick said he “appreciated” the central defender. “I like him very much, he knows my thoughts, that says everything about it,” said Flick.
