Manchester City have completed the signing of Argentina midfielder Maximo Perrone from Velez Sarsfield.

90min confirmed early in the transfer window that City had prevailed against competition for the 20-year-old, who had also been courted by Benfica, Newcastle and Wolverhampton Wanderers, among others. The transfer was finally announced by the Skyblues on Monday evening.

City is said to have pulled Perrone’s release clause, which was around nine million dollars (8.3 million euros).

The defensive midfielder has signed a contract at the Etihad Stadium until 2028, following in the footsteps of compatriot Julian Alvarez, who also joined the Manchester blue half this season.
