The German national ice hockey team has the best chance of winning the Germany Cup again.
The vice world champion won in Landshut after a strong final third against Austria 5:3 (0:1, 1:1, 4:1) and goes into the final day with two wins. Another success on Sunday (2.30 p.m./Magentasport) against Slovakia would mean defending their title.
Benjamin Baumgartner from the Swiss club SC Bern gave the guests the lead with two goals (10th/28th minute) in front of 4,200 spectators. Marc Michaelis, who also plays for EV Zug in Switzerland, was able to reduce the score to 1:2 after 32 minutes for national coach Harold Kreis’s team.
In the final round, the DEB selection turned up the heat: Michaelis again (44th), Filip Varejcka from EHC Red Bull Munich just 33 seconds later and his Munich team colleague Yasin Ehliz (47th) ensured a 4th place for the now strong German team :2 leadership. Baumgartner temporarily reduced the score to 3:4 (53′). Daniel Pfaffengut scored a few seconds before the end to make the final score 5:3.
