Dario Minden from the board of the Frankfurt fan department considers the ticket ban by the Italian authorities for Eintracht supporters from the city of Frankfurt to be wrong and counterproductive from a security perspective.
“The safest thing is always to have people in a guest block. Whether you think that’s good or bad: realistically, despite all efforts, Naples will not be a Frankfurt-free zone,” Minden told the German Press Agency. “The danger situation has increased due to the supposed ‘security measures’.”
For the second leg of Eintracht Frankfurt in the round of 16 of the Champions League on Wednesday in Naples, the Ministry of the Interior in Rome initially banned the sale of tickets to all supporters from Germany. After an urgent application by Eintracht was successful in court and the ban was declared invalid, the Prefecture of Naples issued a ticket ban exclusively for supporters from the city of Frankfurt. A Frankfurt complaint against it was dismissed. Eintracht had previously announced that they would waive their away contingent of tickets. Eintracht fans are still expected in Naples. Many have already booked their trip.
In the southern Italian city, it is feared that violent Frankfurt supporters will arrive without tickets to cause a riot. According to media reports, security measures in the city on Mount Vesuvius will be increased. At Capodichino Airport, passengers on flights from Germany are particularly monitored, as the “Gazzetta dello Sport” reported on Monday.
