Pellegrino Matarazzo was in office at VfB Stuttgart for more than 1000 days. As head coach, he was responsible for the Bundesliga soccer team in 100 competitive games.
But he doesn’t get another chance to prove himself with the Swabians who haven’t won this season. Matarazzo was relieved of his duties on Monday.
In preparation for the very important game against bottom VfL Bochum on Saturday (3.30 p.m. / Sky), the Stuttgart team is expected to start with Michael Wimmer. Matarazzo’s assistant coach is to lead the units for the time being.
The rescue should then succeed with another coach. The successor is not yet known. However, the names of some potential candidates who are currently without a club are already being discussed in the media.
Gerardo Seoane: The Swiss, who has just been released from Bayer Leverkusen, knows the Bundesliga. Seoane and the Werkself finished third last season with refreshing attacking football, but this season Leverkusen were unlucky under the 43-year-old. Before his time in Germany, Seoane was three champions and one cup winner in his home country with the BSC Young Boys from Bern.
Sebastian Hoeneß: The 40-year-old has a big name and father Dieter Hoeneß has had a successful time with VfB. The former vice world champion scored 57 goals in 117 competitive games. Sebastian Hoeneß began his coaching career with FC Hertha 03 Zehlendorf’s youth team. This was followed by positions at RB Leipzig and FC Bayern Munich. He made his Bundesliga debut for TSG 1899 Hoffenheim. After 81 games, Hoeneß had to go at the end of June after missing the European Cup qualification.
Peter Bosz: The Dutchman was only released on Sunday at Olympique Lyon after 14 points from ten league games in France’s Ligue 1. Bosz also knows the Bundesliga from his years at Borussia Dortmund and Bayer 04 Leverkusen.
