FC Bayern Munich has now officially confirmed the extension of the contract with striker Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting by one year until June 30, 2024.
With 15 goals in 24 competitive games this season, the World Cup participant with Cameroon is the most prolific player in the record champions’ squad alongside Germany international Jamal Musiala. During the first half of the season, 33-year-old Choupo-Moting managed to rise to number one in the center forward position in the Bayern squad after Robert Lewandowski moved to FC Barcelona.
“Choupo is an artist on the ball. He has performed very well in recent years. In the first half of the season he helped us to close the gap we had in the forward position,” said sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic in the Bayern Munich Communication. Salihamidzic did not mention the name of Lewandowski. “He did very well and confirmed his performances in the games this year. We are happy that we have him and can work with him until the summer of 2024,” he added to Choupo-Moting.
Choupo-Moting “super happy” with new contract
According to reports, the new contract includes a significant salary increase for the attacker. “I’m super happy to stay longer and continue to have a lot of fun with the club,” commented Choupo-Moting. “I get along very well with the guys, we’re working hard towards our goals. The competition is fierce, but if you want to be among the best, that’s part of it. That’s the only way to win a lot of titles,” said Choupo-Moting.
He moved from Paris Saint-Germain to Munich on a free transfer in October 2020. In 2021 and 2022 he was German champion with Bayern. In 2021 he also became Club World Champion.
