Board spokesman Axel Hellmann has ended speculation about his future and is staying with Eintracht Frankfurt. The 51-year-old will continue his work at the Bundesliga soccer club, as the club announced. Hellmann reported this to the Chairman of the Supervisory Board, Philip Holzer.
Hellmann’s contract with the Europa League winner runs until June 30, 2027. The lawyer was also being discussed as the new head of the German Football League (DFL). Together with Oliver Leki from Freiburg, he will be the interim DFL managing director with equal rights until the end of June.
“For me, it’s crucial that we can continue to make a difference at Eintracht Frankfurt,” said Hellmann. “Due to my position as spokesman for the board of directors, it has been necessary and important in recent weeks to ensure that the development of the club can continue to be vigorously promoted at all levels.” Because of a dispute with the chairman of the supervisory board, Holzer, Hellmann had hesitated for a long time to opt for the traditional club. Most recently, Hellmann had also been traded as a candidate for the possible successor to CEO Oliver Kahn at FC Bayern.
“The whereabouts of Axel Hellmann is an important sign for the entire club, but also in the final spurt of the current round with regard to the new season,” said Holzer. “It’s understandable that he’s been thinking about his future over the past few weeks.” In the open and good talks in the past few weeks, it was found “that different opinions could be cleared up and there is a good basis for continued successful cooperation”.
