The German champion Alba Berlin remains undefeated in the basketball Bundesliga.
On the third day of the game, the people from the capital won 89:81 (44:36) against the previously undefeated pros of EWE Baskets Oldenburg. The best Berlin throwers were the national players Johannes Thiemann and Maodo Lo with 18 points each.
Co-favorite FC Bayern Munich also got their third win in the third game. Coach Andrea Trinchieri’s team won against the Niners Chemnitz 88:74 (47:49). Augustine Rubit scored 22 points for Bayern as the best thrower, Marko Filipovity scored 29 points for Chemnitz.
Berlin coach Israel Gonzalez had to do without sick centers Ben Lammers and Yannick Wetzell just 41 hours after the Euroleague victory against Partizan Belgrade. The injured Malte Delow and Marcus Eriksson were still missing.
After a balanced start, Alba was initially able to pull away by six points. After that, the Berliners gave up too many offensive rebounds against the physically defending Oldenburg, giving the hosts second chances to throw. The second quarter started with a 21:19 lead. The Berliners now defended more intensively, and Thiemann turned up the heat. The center scored 17 points before the break, eight of them in the last two minutes to make it 44:36 for Alba.
The decision came in the third quarter. Alba dominated in the rebound, continued to defend well and now scored better from distance. Above all, Lo now excelled. The capitals settled on 18 points (70:52). In the final section, the Berliners then shifted down a gear. Oldenburg tried everything again and closed the gap to seven points in the final minute. However, the Berliners brought the lead over time.
