Double European champion Gina Lückenkemper wants to start running again in November.
“The fall in Munich was more like a car accident. I fell on my face at over 30 km/h. It’s not like I just fell down,” said the 25-year-old athlete in Villapiana at the Club sports aid event the best. “Extreme forces acted on the body.”
The knee had “healed wonderfully,” reported Lückenkemper. The European champion over 100 meters and with the relay over 4 x 100 meters fell at the European Championships in Munich after the finish of the individual race and injured her knee in her “gold fall”. The flesh wound needed stitches. It was subsequently determined that she had also suffered a capsule injury in the ankle. Since the capsule was loaded too early, it still has to take it easy. “Of course it was very annoying.”
But that’s not a problem because the season is over anyway, said Lückenkemper. In October she wants to start strength training again, in November with running units. “So everything fits.”
Before the successes at the European Championships, Lückenkemper had won bronze with the relay at the World Championships. “There wasn’t really time to process what’s happened in the last few months,” said the 25-year-old, who is recovering. “Of course I’m aware that there will be another World Cup in Budapest next year. But I haven’t really been able to really deal with the topic of next year, next season.”
