Taylor Tomlinson, who’s a funny lady and writer, has hosted the CBS talk and variety show “After Midnight” for a couple of seasons, and she’s been chilling in Los Angeles for nine years. But, hey, she’s not really around much because she’s got this killer stand-up schedule. Her Save Me tour is all over North America and Europe, with 76 shows lined up until January. She’s only in L.A. about 20 Sundays in a year. In this Sunday Funday edition, we get a glimpse into how she’d spend her ideal Sunday in the city.
So, Taylor tries to hit the road for two weekends every month, but sometimes it turns into three. Sundays are usually her travel days back home, and the real chill time happens on a random Tuesday at noon. She’s happy to share what she’d do on a Sunday that doesn’t involve a boring layover at some random airport. Her day would kick off with making some matcha and wrap up with sushi and a movie. In between, she’d check out a flea market, grab some notebooks from a bookstore, and enjoy the Huntington’s outdoor spaces. Here’s a rough breakdown of her day.
At 9 a.m., she whisks up some morning matcha. Taylor isn’t big on coffee because it gives her headaches, so she prefers matcha with almond milk, cinnamon, and a touch of vanilla protein shake. She likes it iced and enjoys the ritual of making matcha with a bamboo whisk. At 9:30 a.m., she heads back to bed with a book. Taylor usually reads stuff that’s educational or work-related, but she’s trying to squeeze in some fun reading too.
By 10:15 a.m., she’s rustling up some breakfast – a scramble with eggs, turkey, veggies, and avocado. At 11:45 a.m., Taylor hits up the Melrose Trading Post flea market with pals. She loves shopping for leather jackets and quirky furniture pieces. A lamp, a wardrobe, you name it, she’s probably bought it there. The market also offers good food, music, and drinks. At 2 p.m., she zooms over to Vroman’s Bookstore in Pasadena to stock up on notebooks. Taylor has a thing for vintage jackets and notebooks, and she’s always on the hunt for unique finds.
If she’s not writing at the cafe, she heads to the Huntington at 3 p.m. to soak in the peaceful atmosphere. At 5:30 p.m., it’s sushi time in Studio City at her favorite spot, Sushi Tomoki. The service is fast, and the food is top-notch. Around 7 p.m., Taylor catches a movie at Universal CityWalk with her buddies. The last movie she saw there was “Paddington in Peru.” Finally, at 10:30 p.m., she winds down with some tea, a shower, and a good book before calling it a night.
And that’s how Taylor Tomlinson would ideally spend her Sunday in L.A. It’s a mix of relaxation, entertainment, good food, and some quality me-time. Not too shabby for a busy comedian on the go.
