According to President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, the severe Russian attacks on Ukraine in recent days have caused serious damage to the energy infrastructure.
“Since October 10, 30 percent of Ukraine’s power plants have been destroyed, leading to massive power outages across the country,” Zelenskyy wrote on Twitter on Tuesday. At the same time, he rejected any form of negotiations with Moscow. “There is no more room for negotiations with the regime of (Russian President Vladimir) Putin.”
Since last week, Russia has been covering the neighboring country with large-scale rocket and drone attacks, again on Tuesday. Dozens of civilians died. Earlier, there had been a heavy explosion on the Crimean Bridge, which connects Russia and the Black Sea Peninsula annexed by Moscow. Putin blames the Ukrainian secret service SBU for this.
Numerous Ukrainian regions were affected by new rocket and drone fire on Tuesday night – including the capital Kyiv once again. In the eastern part of the metropolis there are power and water supply failures, Mayor Vitali Klitschko said on Telegram. He called on all residents to save electricity and stock up on drinking water.
London: Russia is probably targeting the energy grid
British military experts believe that the Russian attacks are most likely aimed at the country’s energy grid. Russia has maintained a high level of long-range strikes on targets in different parts of Ukraine since October 10. “It is most likely a key objective of this action to cause widespread damage to Ukraine’s energy grid,” said an intelligence report released by the Defense Ministry on Tuesday.
Since Moscow’s setbacks on the battlefield in the summer, British experts see a greater willingness to attack civilian infrastructure in Ukraine in addition to military targets.
