A former Beverly Hills resident and the owner of an L.A. pawn shop, Glenn Steven Bednarsh, tried to sell a stolen Andy Warhol art piece worth $175,000. He bought it for $6,000 in February 2021 and then attempted to sell it to a Dallas-based auction house. Bednarsh, who now lives in Farmington, Mich., has been charged with conspiracy and interstate transportation of stolen goods.
Bednarsh asked Brian Alec Light, of Hudson, Ohio, to help him sell the stolen art. Light contacted the auction house in March 2021, and the art piece was recognized as stolen by a West Hollywood art gallery. Light lied to FBI agents, saying he bought the piece at a garage sale for $18,000. The artwork was stolen from an L.A. County home in early 2021, brought to Bednarsh’s pawnshop, and purchased. Light pleaded guilty to interstate transportation of stolen goods and faces up to 10 years in federal prison. Bednarsh is expected to be arraigned in downtown Los Angeles soon.
