Two German teenagers were among the hostages released by the Islamist Hamas in the Gaza Strip on Monday. Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock (Greens) announced this on Monday evening on the X platform, formerly Twitter. This brings the number of released hostages with German passports to ten. In its terrorist attack on October 7th, Hamas kidnapped a total of around 240 people into the Gaza Strip, including around 20 people who also have German citizenship.

Clip shows the fate of the brothers
According to a spokeswoman for the Israeli hostage families, the German citizens were two teenage brothers. An Israeli animation director published a clip about her abduction from the border town of Nir Oz. The 80-second animated film “Disaster” shows how the brothers, who were alone at home, were woken up early in the morning on October 7th by rocket alarms and rocket attacks and then kidnapped.
Hamas handed over a total of eleven hostages to the Red Cross on Monday evening as part of the ceasefire in the Gaza war, the Israeli army announced. According to Israeli media reports, there are nine children and young people and two women. In return, 33 female and teenage Palestinian prisoners are to be released.
It was the fourth group of hostages to be released since the ceasefire began on Friday. So far, 58 hostages have been released, including eight German dual citizens. In exchange for the released Israeli hostages, 117 Palestinians were released from prison.
