Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier has called for the fight against climate change to be tackled as a task for society as a whole. “This fight can only be won by all scientific disciplines working together,” he said on Thursday at a reception for guest researchers from the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation in the park of his official residence, Schloss Bellevue.

This can only be done together with the technology companies that show how climate protection works in practice, with investors who rely on climate-friendly business models in industry, with responsible politicians and together with the citizens. “It’s clear to me: It’s about much more than just summoning targets,” said Steinmeier. “It’s all about the way there: we all have to become specialists for climate protection.”

Steinmeier congratulated the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation on its 70th anniversary. The foundation, based in Bonn, promotes scientific cooperation between German and foreign researchers. Among other things, it awards research grants and prizes.
