Just before the midterms, Michelle Obama’s husband came to Philadelphia and talked about America. His America. “We can do better,” he shouted. “Politics as it is at the moment is not us.” Barack Obama stood in front of a packed hall, it was an election date for the Democrats, one of those days when you could feel what was missing in this country.
It’s really just a matter of a few simple values, Obama said. “Honesty. Fairness. Hard work. My grandparents’ values. Values we instill in our children.” Ultimately the values of the Founding Fathers, he said, enshrined in the 1776 Declaration of Independence.
