I jus’ read this article ’bout some dude who caused a crash on the 405 Freeway last year and killed a young couple. So, this guy, Oscar Eduardo Ortega-Anguiano, was drivin’ his Volkswagen like a maniac, all high on drugs and booze, goin’ 95 mph. His car crashed into a Honda carryin’ two teens, Anya Varfolomeev and Nikolay Osokin, who died in flames. Pretty tragic stuff, I tell ya.
Now, Ortega-Anguiano pleads guilty to manslaughter charges and might get outta jail after only three years of a 10-year sentence. But this new U.S. Attorney, Bill Essayli, ain’t havin’ it. He wants to slap immigration charges on this guy ’cause he’s been deported twice before. If convicted, Ortega-Anguiano could spend up to 20 years in federal prison.
Seems like the state is okay with lettin’ him out. They even say he’s eligible for parole in July. But folks from the Trump administration are outraged, claimin’ this dude shouldn’t be walkin’ free. They’re all worked up ’bout justice for the teens and their parents.
The feds are gettin’ involved too. Border czar Tom Homan’s sendin’ ICE agents to make sure Ortega-Anguiano gets deported if he’s released. Even Gov. Gavin Newsom’s office is cooperatin’. They’re pledgin’ to honor the detainer and work with ICE to transfer him.
Seems like this whole mess could’ve been avoided. ICE says Ortega-Anguiano has a record of crimes, includin’ burglary and vehicle theft. The Department of Homeland Security’s assistant secretary, Tricia McLaughlin, is hopin’ California law enforcement steps up to keep this criminal alien outta American communities.
But here’s the kicker – the guy hasn’t even had his arraignment for the immigration charge yet. A federal case was scheduled for March 10, but he’s still sittin’ in state prison. Newsom’s office is blamin’ the old Orange County D.A. for not goin’ after Ortega-Anguiano with second-degree murder charges. But the D.A.’s sayin’ they tried, they really did. This whole situation is a hot mess, folks.
