According to a medical organization, 97 people have been killed in fighting between rival military forces in Sudan. Another 942 people, including soldiers and civilians, were injured, the Sudanese doctors’ organization said on Monday. The World Health Organization reported 83 deaths and more than 1,000 injuries on Monday night.

Fighting between the Sudanese armed forces and the rival Rapid Support Forces (RSF) continued on Monday. Fighting in the Sudanese capital Khartoum was reportedly concentrated on key government buildings such as the presidential palace and army headquarters.

Clashes also break out in other cities such as Nyala, the regional capital of the state of South Darfur and the most populous city in the country after the capital region.

In the past few days, the conflict between Sudan’s de facto President Abdel Fattah al-Burhan and his deputy Mohammed Hamdan Daglo, the leader of the RSF, has escalated for weeks. The military apparatuses of both camps fight each other with heavy artillery, tanks and air raids, among other things. Due to ongoing fighting in densely populated parts of the city, even higher casualties are feared.
