Simone Biles got married in a civil ceremony: Just over a year after getting engaged to football player Jonathan Owens (who plays for the Houston Texans in the NFL), the couple tied the knot in Texas. The US gymnast is now officially called Simone Biles Owens, as she announced on her Instagram page. At 26, Biles is the most successful gymnast in history, winning four Olympic gold medals and 25 World Championships medals. Some describe her as the defining athlete of the present.
But despite these superlatives, Biles presented himself very down-to-earth at their civil wedding. Her outfit didn’t come from a star designer and didn’t cost a fortune either. Instead, the superstar opted for inexpensive clothing. Her four-tiered ruffled dress can be bought online for as little as $120, according to Glamor. And her shoes are only $58, too. Some mere mortals dig much deeper into their pockets.
On Instagram, the gymnast answered questions from her fans and also gave an insight into her wedding plans. She bought the shoes from Amazon, but the sandals were quite uncomfortable, so she changed shoes for later photos. Apparently, everything went pretty quickly for the civil yes word: “Everything was ordered this week. Dress, wedding rings, shoes, bouquet of flowers,” revealed Biles.
“I wasn’t as prepared for the civil ceremony as I was for the big wedding,” she admitted. Because Biles and Owens want to celebrate in a few weeks with about 140 guests at an as yet unknown location abroad – a wedding party on a large scale is apparently planned. There, Biles will not be satisfied with a dress from an online shop either: for this occasion she bought four different dresses from the luxury brand Galia Lahav. “A bit dramatic, but you only get married once,” said the gymnast.
