The nominations for the 77th Tony Awards have been announced. The musical “Hell’s Kitchen” has a great chance of winning trophies at the US theater and musical awards, which have been awarded annually since 1947. Alicia Keys (43), who wrote the music and lyrics for the piece, and Kristoffer Diaz, who wrote the book, and their team can look forward to 13 nominations. Only the 1970s play “Stereophonic” achieved the same number.
While “Stereophonic” is nominated for “Best Play”, among other things, “Hell’s Kitchen” is fighting for the award for “Best Musical”. In addition, Kristoffer Diaz (“Best Book of a Musical”) and Maleah Joi Moon are nominated for best actress, Brandon Victor Dixon is nominated for best supporting actor and Shoshana Bean is nominated for best supporting actress. There could also be prizes for “Best Musical Direction”, “Best Costume Design” or “Best Set Design”, among other things. “Hell’s Kitchen,” which made its Broadway debut in mid-April, tells the semi-autobiographical story of a young woman growing up in the Manhattan neighborhood of the same name in the 1990s. After her parents separated, Keys lived with her mother in the area in question.
The prominent names among the nominees this year also include “Succession” star Jeremy Strong (45), who is nominated for best leading actor in a play (“An Enemy of the People”). Liev Schreiber (56, “Doubt: A Parable”) will compete with him. Rachel McAdams (45) could win best actress in a play (“Mary Jane”). Eddie Redmayne (42) has the chance for the award for best actor in a musical (“Cabaret at the Kit Kat Club”), Daniel Radcliffe (34) as best supporting actor in a musical (“Merrily We Roll Along”) and Jim Parsons (51) as best supporting actor in a play (“Mother Play”). The 77th Tony Awards ceremony will take place on June 16, 2024 in New York City.
