In fact, it’s not his thing at all. But when an undercover agent is found dead in the woods, Robert Karow is also present. Because the commissioner knows the dead man: It is his childhood friend Maik Balthasar (Andreas Pietschmann), who was assigned as an undercover investigator to the notorious Berlin nightclub owner Mesut Günes (Sahin Eryilmaz), and whose fingerprints are on the murder weapon. A clear case for prosecutor Sara Taghavi (Jasmin Tabatabai). Despite the clear evidence, Karow has his doubts – and takes a vacation to investigate on his own. He moves into his old friend’s apartment and leads his life. He dives deep into the common past – which helps him to clarify the true facts.

This “crime scene” looks behind the facade of the underworld, which is dominated by machismo. Feelings are interpreted as weakness in this world – especially when the object of love is of the same sex. The film shows tough gangsters, tough cops – and what happens when this tank breaks open.

Written by Erol Yesilkaya and filmed by director Stefan Schaller, there is little to complain about in this episode. Only the programming gives cause for criticism: Such a gloomy and profound “crime scene” would have deserved a different slot than the Sunday before Christmas Eve.

In the episode “The girl who goes home alone” broadcast in May, Commissioner Nina Rubin, played by Meret Becker, died. Robert Karow continues alone – and shows that he also carries the thriller alone. The character was bisexual from the beginning, in “The Victim” we learn more about the past of this investigator and his greatest love. “In the top ten people I really like, you’re number 2,” he says to prostitute Camilla Peters (Kim Riedle), who saved his life. This film leaves no doubt as to who number 1 is. At the same time he makes you want to see more episodes with Karow.

This “crime scene” may not create a real Christmas spirit – it’s still worth seeing.

Immediately afterwards, ARD repeats the “Tatort: Hetzjagd” from Ludwigshafen on Sunday evening from 9.45 p.m
