Anniversary for the actor Wotan Wilke Möhring (55): For ten years now he has been slipping into the role of the milk-drinking federal policeman Thorsten Falke for the “Tatort” series. Since 2016 he has been supported by his colleague Franziska Weisz (42) aka Julia Grosz. In the latest case “Verborgen” (Sunday, April 16 from 8:15 p.m. in the first) of the North Germany duo, the two commissioners have to solve the death of a refugee. Is it worth turning on?

When his 17-year-old son Noah goes missing, Jon Makoni (Alois Moyo, 56) turns to the police in desperation, even though it could be dangerous for him and his wife Hope (Sheri Hagen, 55) to be targeted by the authorities : Even if the Makonis have been living and working in Hanover for years, they have no papers and therefore do not actually exist. The investigators Falke (Möhring) and Grosz (Weisz) first lead the search for a smuggling network to Hanover. An unknown body is found in a truck.

Jon offers himself as a witness in the hopes that investigators will help him find his son. In order to clarify the identity of the dead man and to save the missing Noah from a similar fate, Falke and Grosz penetrate deep into Hanover’s informal economy.

Absolutely. Mainly because you enjoy watching the two main actors, Wotan Wilke Möhring and Julia Weisz, at work. Both actors have now internalized their roles so much that you believe every sentence, every emotion, every hand movement. A strong crime duo that – as so often – makes you want more and has been an integral part of the “Tatort” cosmos for many years.

But the story is also told in a very exciting way. The highly political complex of topics “Smugglers and their machinations” paired with “People in Germany without papers” are told realistically but with speed and excitement without going too far. That was exactly the intention of the author Julia Drache: “The drama is in the foreground. We wanted to focus on the fate and suffering of these people. This is rarely told enough on German television.” Rating: Worth seeing thanks to a successful screenplay and strong actors.
