It wouldn’t have been a surprise if May 25, 2022 had marked the end of Foo Fighters. That day, drummer Taylor Hawkins was found dead in his hotel room in Bogotá, aged just 50. The band canceled their tour, fans feared the dissolution.
But the hope is high that there will be new music from the Foo Fighters, albeit without Taylor Hawkins – and it is probably justified. The band around singer Dave Grohl shared a short sound snippet on social media, which is apparently an excerpt from a new song. All you can hear is a guitar riff, along with the words “Do you think what I think?” That’s enough to get Foo Fighters fans in raptures and anticipation.
However, the musical sign of life does not come as a complete surprise. It has been almost a year since Taylor Hawkins passed away, and at the end of last year the band made it clear that they wanted to continue without the late drummer. Without Taylor Hawkins, “we would never have become the band we were. And we also know that we will be a different band going forward,” the statement said.
The Foo Fighters have also already announced live performances: they will start their tour in May 2023, which will also take them to two concerts at Rock im Park and Rock am Ring in Germany at the beginning of June. Guitarist Chris Shiflett had already hinted in the fall that the band would aim to release new music again.
When exactly new songs and even a new album will be released is not yet clear – but it shouldn’t be long. It is also unclear who will replace Taylor Hawkins as drummer. Recently in conversation were Matt Cameron from Pearl Jam and Atom Willard, former member of the rock band Angels
