Most Britons aren’t particularly interested in the coronation of King Charles III, according to a YouGov poll. in London. Two-thirds of those surveyed are not particularly (35 percent) or not at all (29 percent) interested in the historic event on May 6th. At 75 percent, dislike is particularly high among younger people aged 18 to 24, the survey institute said on Friday. But even among the more royally loyal people over the age of 65, 53 percent said they care little about the event. YouGov surveyed a total of 3,070 Britons.
According to the survey, only 12 percent believe that only Prince Harry comes to his father’s coronation, but Meghan stays at home with the two children. About one in four respondents (27 percent) would like both royals to stay in the United States. 46 percent of all respondents stated that they were indifferent. Only 15 percent wanted Harry and Meghan to be present at the coronation.
The people are divided
For months there has been an ice age between the palace and Harry (38) and Meghan (41). In his memoirs, Harry again lashed out at his family in Britain. It is said that he has not spoken to his father and brother William (40) for months. The fact is: Meghan will stay in the USA with the children – Prince Archie, who will be four years old on the day of the coronation, and Princess Lilibet (1).
And what are the people planning for the coronation? According to the survey, the British are divided on this: 46 percent stated that they will probably watch the coronation or take part in the associated celebrations. 48 percent stated that they would probably not do so.
The coronation of King Charles (74) and his wife Camilla (75) will take place with numerous guests of state and members of British society who have been honored for special achievements. This is followed by a coronation procession in the golden state carriage in front of thousands of onlookers. The celebrations will not be over with the ceremony in London. On Sunday (May 7th) people are to come together for the “Coronation Big Lunch”, a “big coronation meal”. Street festivals, tea parties and other events are planned nationwide.
