The US actress Suzanne Somers, who became known with series such as “Jack of Hearts with Two Ladies” and “A Strong Family”, is dead. Somers died on Sunday at the age of 76, US media unanimously reported, citing their speaker. She died peacefully in her home, surrounded by her family, a statement said. Around 20 years ago, Somers made a breast cancer diagnosis public.

Born in 1946 in the US state of California, Somers worked as a model from an early age and soon got her first roles in film and television. She made her breakthrough in the 1970s, especially with series such as “Jack of Hearts with Two Ladies”, “The 6 Million Dollar Man” and “A Strong Family”. Somers also wrote numerous books.

Several stars remembered the actress on social media. “Suzanne and I were friends for decades. She was the sister I never had and my close confidante,” wrote singer Barry Manilow (80, “Mandy”). Actress Fran Drescher (66, “The Nanny”) also said goodbye to her friend: “She was a lovely and talented woman, wife and mother.” Musician Nancy Sinatra (83) wrote: “May her last journey be an easy one.” Actress Goldie Hawn (77) also spoke up.
