He was 17 years old, she was 15: Lee Richards and Dawn Gray were a teenage couple in love in the early 1990s. They got to know each other in the summer of 1991, exchanged numbers, spent a lot of time together – but after a few months the relationship was history again, Dawn broke up with her boyfriend. At least for now, because 32 years later the couple from England are back together.
But until then it was a long way. It took Lee some time to process the breakup with Dawn. But after that everyone lived his life, the contact broke off, both had long-term relationships. Lee was married for ten years and Dawn for 28 years. She is the mother of two adult children. But after more than three decades, their paths crossed again – online. Lee, just separated, searched for his childhood sweetheart on Facebook and found her. She accepted his friend request and so the two got to know each other for the second time.
They wrote and talked on the phone for hours, there was a lot to talk about. After a few weeks, they also started dating again. According to English media reports, they fell in love a second time – and are now back together. By their own admission, they’re back to the crush they had when they were teenagers.
“It was meant to be. We just found each other again – like no time had passed. When he showed up at my door after all this time, we just laughed. It was like we were young again,” says Dawn Gray , now 47 years old. And she is sure: “It will always feel like that with him.” What Gray appreciates most about the relationship is that she and her partner can talk about anything and laugh together. Lee Richards also enthuses: “It feels like we’ve never been apart.” When he saw Gray again after all these years, he was just as fascinated by her as he was as a teenager.
