“Sisi” is entering a new round: RTL is continuing the event series with the two main actors Dominique Devenport and Jannik Schümann this year with new stories about the Austrian Empress Elisabeth and Emperor Franz Joseph I. The broadcaster announced this in a statement.
Hauke Bartel, Head of Fiction at RTL, is quoted as saying that “Sisi” is “a huge success,” especially among streamers. The event series was therefore the most successful original fiction production on RTL for the third time in a row in 2023. “That’s why we’re really looking forward to crowning the successful series with a fourth season.”
Season four will again consist of six episodes. Filming will start next spring, the broadcaster said. Elena Hell and Robert Krause write the scripts and act as head authors. The film is directed by Sven Bohse and Michael Schreitel acts as director of photography.
It is not yet known when the new “Sisi” episodes will run. Previous seasons always started at the end of the year. The series celebrated its world premiere in October 2021. Season one was shown in December 2021 and season two in December 2022, with the third season following a year later. In the first episodes, Sisi falls in love with Franz Joseph I and the two get married. In the difficult early days at court, she has to assert herself as a strong empress. In season two, Sisi feels more trapped in a golden cage than ever. The birth of their son was actually supposed to make the imperial couple’s happiness perfect. Instead, it is the impetus for power struggles in Europe.
In the third season, there are riots in Vienna, which is why Franz decides to advance his son Rudolf’s military training. Sisi wants to protect her sensitive son and leaves the farm with him. After her return, Sisi finds out that her son has been kidnapped.
