King Charles III (74) and the rest of the royal family are expected to have an emotional Easter celebration this year. It’s not just the first royal Easter at Windsor Castle without the late Queen Elizabeth II (1926-2022). Easter also coincides with the anniversary of the death of Prince Philip (1921-2021). The Queen’s husband died on April 9, 2021.

Royal expert Ingrid Seward believes things will still be cheerful in Windsor this weekend. She told The Sun: “Since Easter is early this year, it’s also the second anniversary of Prince Philip’s death on Easter Sunday,” and Queen Mum (1900-2002) died shortly before Easter 2002, Seward recalls. She assumes that the celebration of the royal family this year will be happy, but also thoughtful. According to the expert, there will likely be some prayers in the private chapel at the castle. Seward added to The Sun: “There will also be a service for both the Queen and Philip during the Easter service at St George’s Chapel.”

According to the report, the royal family will be staying at Windsor Castle over the holiday period. Last year, the Queen, who passed away in September, was not mobile enough to attend Easter services. Charles and today’s Queen Consort Camilla (75) celebrated Easter at their Scottish estate in Birkhall.

Easter this year could be a big family reunion for the royals “after the difficult past few months,” Seward continued. Princess Anne (72) and her husband Tim Laurence (68), Zara (41) and Mike Tindall (44) with their children, Peter Phillips (45) and his daughters, Prince Edward (59) with his wife Sophie ( 58) and the two children as well as Princess Beatrice (34) and Princess Eugenie (33) with their families. Prince William, 40, and Princess Kate, 41, and their three children could also be there if they aren’t still on vacation, according to The Sun. Even the disgraced Prince Andrew, 63, and his ex-wife Sarah Ferguson, 63, may have received an invitation.

The entertainment program for the children, including Easter egg hunts, could be organized by Princess Kate, Seward suspects, according to “The Sun”. Roast lamb with some spring vegetables and potatoes is said to be on the royal family’s menu.
