The US Oscar winner Michael Douglas (78) receives the Golden Palm of Honor at this year’s Cannes Film Festival. This honors his brilliant career and commitment to cinema, as the festival announced on Wednesday. The trophy is to be presented to him during the opening ceremony on May 16th. Douglas, who won the 1988 Oscar for Best Actor for “Wall Street,” is a regular at the festival.
The festival quoted him as saying that Cannes is a wonderful place for filmmakers, artistic boldness and beautiful stories. The actor and producer first came to Cannes in 1979 when he starred in “The China Syndrome”. He was last seen there in 2013 in “Liberace – Too much of a good thing is wonderful”. His other credits include “The Green Diamond”, “The WonderBoys” and “Basic Instinct”. As a producer, he made a name for himself with the cult film “One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest”. The festival lasts until May 27th.
