If you dish out Duchess Meghan, Prince Harry or the Royal Family, you can be sure of one thing: attention. That’s probably what Chris Rock thought when he wrote his new comedy program “Chris Rock: Selective Outrage”.
In the Netflix show, Rock takes on Meghan’s racism allegations. Which he obviously can’t quite understand. “Seems like a nice woman who just complains. Like she didn’t win the fair lottery,” he says of Meghan’s skin tone. He is alluding to the problem of colorism, a form of racism that is particularly aimed at people with very dark skin. Not Rock’s only dig at the American.
“Some of the crap she went through wasn’t racism; it was just some in-law crap,” he says on stage. “I know her dilemma: A black girl trying to be accepted by her white in-laws. It’s hard. It’s very hard, but it’s not as hard as a white girl trying to be accepted by her black in-laws,” he also jokes.
But the British family also gets their fat off. Because while Chris Rock sees little racism in Meghan’s allegations, he also says, “She] went to Oprah [and] said, ‘I had no idea how racist they were.’ Didn’t you Google those assholes? […] They are the origin of racists. They invented colonialism. They invested in slavery like in The Lion’s Den.” At the end of his joke tirade, he had a tip for other people of color: “If you’re black and want to be accepted by your white parents-in-law, then you have to marry a Kardashian, because they accept everyone,” says Chris Rock.
Not only did Rock’s jokes cause a stir, but also the audience during the live recording of his show. Because according to “Page Six” there was also Janina Gavankar, one of Meghan Markle’s best friends, who was even a guest at her and Harry’s wedding in 2018. According to eyewitnesses, Gavankar is said to have laughed out loud at the comedian’s jokes.
