Most house cats die after 10 to 15 years. But there are also exceptions. Stupsi from Bavaria is said to have turned 28 years old – that would make her the oldest cat in the world.
The animal has now died and had to be put to sleep, reports Bayerischer Rundfunk. After an undoubtedly long life – but there is no official proof of her age, as she was not initially vaccinated or microchipped. However, owner Marina Tackovic states that her pet was 28 years and eight months old. Evidence for this are photos and video recordings of the family from 1994, on which Stupsi is said to be seen.
The cat’s Instagram account said it went “downhill very quickly” in the end: “A long, great life passes. Lots of love, pain, fun and heartache.” According to Bayerischer Rundfunk, Stupsi had recently seemed powerless and apathetic and could no longer get up.
The supposedly oldest cat in the world had lived on Marina Tackovic’s parents’ farm for a long time. When her condition worsened, Tackovic brought Stupsi to her apartment in Altötting and took care of her there. There were regular photos to be seen on the Instagram account “stupsi_2030”, which was created just a few weeks before her death.
According to the Guinness Book, the official record as the oldest living cat in the world is held by Flossie from Great Britain, who is currently 27 years old. An animal from Texas named Creme Puff, which died in 2005 at the age of more than 38, came to an even older age.
