Ingo and Mara Repplinger, father and daughter from beautiful Saarland, brought an old suitcase from Louis Vuitton to “Bares für Rares”. Horst Lichter is delighted: “Were our wishes heard?”
The travel utensil is a gift from Mara’s great-grandaunt “Tati”. She used to work at an antiques dealer. And if he didn’t have the money to pay for them, “Tati” could use his fund. Possibly, says Ingo Repplinger, the suitcase also came from the family, “that’s all a bit unclear”.
As Detlev Kümmel explains, the object was created around 1910 and was sold in London. The expert described the condition as “very used” and the case had traveled a long way. The sellers would like 5,000 euros for their old piece. Since Kümmel does not quite go with it, he only estimates the value at 3000 to 4000 euros. The Repplingers still want to try their luck – and are rewarded.
As soon as you enter the dealership: “You make my heart happy,” says Markus Wildhagen, but Elke Velten-Tönnies adds: “All of our hearts.” The auction starts with 1000 euros. All five dealers bid, and so the price quickly skyrockets.
At 3000 euros, the first ones get out of the bidding, in the end there is a gripping duel between Velten-Tönnies and Wildhagen, which drives the price to breathtaking heights. The two soon left the estimated value behind, and the Repplingers’ desired price was also reached. The bidding only comes to an end at 6300 euros – Markus Wildhagen is awarded the contract.
Father and daughter are beaming afterwards: “We are super satisfied and in the end the money was right,” says Ingo Repplinger.
