rising-day-temperatures-in-telangana-may-peak-forecast

As the scorching summer sun beats down relentlessly, residents of Telangana brace themselves for even hotter days ahead. Meteorologists are predicting a significant increase in temperatures across the region, sending waves of heat that will push the mercury higher than usual. From the bustling twin cities to the serene landscapes of North Telangana, the forecast points to a rise in daytime temperatures, with some areas expected to experience spikes of up to three degrees above normal.

Expert meteorologist Y. V. Rama Rao from the Telangana Development Planning Society sheds light on the imminent weather changes. According to Rao, the upcoming weeks will see a gradual escalation in temperatures, reaching their peak in May. This shift is attributed to the strengthening of hot Northerly winds, which will override the prevailing Easterlies, ushering in a period of intense heat and dryness.

The looming heatwave poses a threat to public health, prompting authorities to issue cautionary advisories. Citizens are advised to limit outdoor activities between the peak hours of 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and take necessary precautions to shield themselves from the blistering sun during daylight hours. Rao emphasizes the importance of staying hydrated and seeking shade to combat the rising temperatures effectively.

While many regions have experienced a relatively normal summer so far, with daytime temperatures hovering around 37-39 degrees Celsius, certain areas in North Telangana have witnessed above-average spikes. The interplay between Easterlies from the Bay of Bengal and localized atmospheric heating has resulted in sporadic rainfall and thunderstorms towards the evenings, offering some respite from the heat.

Looking ahead, experts anticipate a further escalation in temperatures, with the twin cities expected to reach a sweltering 41 degrees Celsius or higher. Districts in Telangana are projected to experience even hotter conditions, with temperatures likely to reach 42-43 degrees Celsius. In North Telangana, the mercury could soar to a scorching 44 degrees Celsius, possibly climbing to a blistering 46 degrees in certain pockets, impacting both daytime and nighttime temperatures.

The nighttime temperatures, which currently range between 18-21 degrees Celsius in the capital region, are predicted to increase to 22-23 degrees Celsius. Similarly, districts may see a rise in minimum temperatures to 24-25 degrees Celsius, signaling a shift towards warmer nights. Rao emphasizes the uncertainty of how this summer season will unfold, noting that while some areas have experienced above-normal temperatures, the overall conditions have remained within the realm of a typical summer.

Reflecting on the rainfall patterns, data from the Telangana Development Planning Society reveals that 14 districts have reported ‘excess’ rainfall, while the remaining districts have received ‘normal’ rainfall. This year, total rainfall has surpassed the normal average by 22%, with a recorded 107.1 cm of rainfall from June 2024. In comparison, the previous year saw a total rainfall of 92.1 cm, underscoring the variability of weather patterns and the importance of monitoring climatic shifts for effective planning and preparedness.

As we navigate through the rising temperatures and shifting weather dynamics, it becomes imperative to prioritize our well-being and adapt to the changing environment. By staying informed, taking proactive measures, and exercising caution, we can navigate the summer months with resilience and readiness, ensuring our safety and comfort in the face of nature’s unpredictable elements.
