Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami was recently honored for his efforts in implementing the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) in the state. The event took place at BHEL Ground in Haridwar on the 135th birth anniversary of Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar, the architect of the Indian Constitution. Thousands of people gathered to witness the felicitation by Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Mahamanch, highlighting the significance of the occasion.
In his address, Chief Minister Dhami paid tribute to Dr. Ambedkar as a visionary who believed in the fundamental principle of equality for all. He emphasized that true equality in society could only be achieved when every citizen is granted equal rights, leading to the inclusion of revolutionary concepts like the Uniform Civil Code in the Constitution. This profound belief inspired Dr. Ambedkar to pave the way for a more just and equitable society.
Acknowledging the honor bestowed upon him, Mr. Dhami humbly stated that the recognition was not just for him as an individual but for the enduring ideology that has long advocated for justice and equality in Indian society. Reflecting on the past, he criticized the previous government for neglecting Dr. Ambedkar’s ideas, but expressed optimism about the current trajectory of India towards realizing the dreams of the Constitution maker.
“This is a new India,” Chief Minister Dhami proclaimed, highlighting the nation’s commitment to upholding its cultural heritage while forging ahead with progressive reforms. He attributed the successful implementation of the Uniform Civil Code to the unwavering support and guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, underscoring the collective political will driving transformative change in the country.
Embracing the spirit of inclusivity and social reform, Mr. Dhami announced plans to construct the Baba Saheb Samrasata Sthal in Haridwar. This initiative aims to educate future generations about the lives and contributions of social reformers from Scheduled communities, alongside promoting awareness of the Indian Constitution. Under the SCP/TSP schemes led by the Department of Social Welfare, multipurpose buildings will be erected in areas predominantly inhabited by Scheduled Castes/Scheduled Tribes, commemorating the legacy of prominent social reformers.
Furthermore, special awareness programs will be conducted in educational institutions under the auspices of the Scheduled Caste Commission to educate young minds about welfare schemes and rights concerning the Scheduled communities. Through these initiatives, Uttarakhand seeks to foster a more inclusive and informed society, paving the way for a brighter future based on equality and justice for all.
As the Chief Minister’s visionary leadership continues to shape the socio-political landscape of Uttarakhand, the implementation of the Uniform Civil Code stands as a pivotal milestone in the state’s journey towards a more equitable and harmonious society. With a steadfast commitment to upholding the principles of equality enshrined in the Indian Constitution, Uttarakhand sets a shining example for the rest of the nation to follow, ushering in a new era of progress and inclusivity for all its citizens.
