Delhi Sees Rising Temperatures Amid Calm Weather Conditions

Delhi, the bustling capital of India, woke up to clear skies and a gentle breeze on Monday, creating the perfect conditions for a significant spike in temperatures. As the mercury began to climb, both the maximum and minimum temperatures rose, hinting at a warmer week ahead for the city.

At the Safdarjung weather station, a popular spot for tracking weather patterns in Delhi, the maximum temperature reached a sweltering 37.8 degrees Celsius, soaring two notches above the normal range. This marked a noticeable increase from the previous day’s high of 36.6 degrees Celsius. Meanwhile, the minimum temperature settled at 21.6 degrees Celsius, a degree higher than the usual range, compared to 20.4 degrees Celsius on Sunday.

Ayanagar, a neighborhood in Delhi, claimed the title of the warmest area in the city, with the mercury hitting a scorching 38.2 degrees Celsius. Throughout the day, humidity levels fluctuated between 32% and 81%, adding a sticky layer to the rising temperatures.

According to experts at the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the city can expect a heatwave to sweep through from April 16 to April 18. The forecast suggests a gradual increase in daytime temperatures by 3-4°C until April 18, followed by a slight dip as a western disturbance moves in, causing temperatures to fall by 2-4°C from April 19 onwards.

As the week progresses, Delhiites can anticipate even hotter days ahead. Tuesday is slated to see temperatures hovering around 38 degrees Celsius, with a prediction of a scorching 42 degrees Celsius on Wednesday. The heatwave is expected to persist on Thursday and Friday, with maximum temperatures lingering around 42 degrees Celsius. IMD has issued a heatwave warning for these three days, signaling a significant deviation from the normal range.

While the city grapples with rising temperatures, air quality remains a concern for residents. On Monday, the air quality index stood at 194 on a scale of 0 to 400, a slight increase from the previous day’s reading of 178. The Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology anticipates a further decline in air quality, moving into the poor category on Tuesday, before fluctuating between moderate and poor levels over the following days.

As Delhi braces itself for the upcoming heatwave, residents are advised to take necessary precautions to stay safe and healthy in the face of soaring temperatures. Whether seeking refuge in the shade or staying hydrated throughout the day, it’s essential to prioritize well-being during this challenging weather spell.
