Visakhapatnam Collector Calls for Development of Rushikonda and Sagar Nagar Beaches
In a recent meeting with the Beach Management Committee representatives, Visakhapatnam Collector M.N. Harendhira Prasad emphasized the need for a special action plan to enhance Rushikonda and Sagar Nagar beaches. Following an inspection of the ‘Blue Flag’ beach at Rushikonda, Collector Prasad highlighted various areas for improvement and development.
Reviving the Marine Watch Tower and Enhancing Amenities
During the meeting, Collector Prasad suggested that Rushikonda Beach could benefit from the revival of the marine watch tower, additional amenities, and the establishment of a tourist information center. He also emphasized the importance of installing signboards for the convenience of tourists and ensuring that the staff at the ‘Blue Flag’ beach receive proper training.
To further enhance Rushikonda Beach, Collector Prasad recommended the construction of steps, provision of lighting, installation of washrooms, removal of encroachments, streamlining of water supply, and completion of pending works. Additionally, he proposed that Sagar Nagar Beach should be developed in line with Rushikonda Beach to attract more visitors and enhance the overall beach experience.
Ensuring Cleanliness and Safety
In his directives to officials, Collector Prasad stressed the importance of maintaining clean beaches and promoting greenery. He proposed renaming the ‘complaint box’ at Rushikonda as a ‘suggestions and opinions’ box to encourage constructive feedback from beachgoers. Furthermore, he recommended the installation of a board for the greywater treatment plant and the creation of a special register to record incidents that occur on the beach, ensuring a safe and enjoyable environment for all visitors.
During the meeting, Regional Director of Tourism Jagadeesh, District Tourism Officer Sudhasagar, and officials from various departments including GVMC, Tourism, VMRDA, Pollution Control Board, EPDCL, Fisheries, Revenue, and Police Departments were present to discuss the proposed action plan for the development of Rushikonda and Sagar Nagar beaches.
As the community works together to enhance these popular beach destinations, the implementation of these initiatives is expected to not only improve the overall visitor experience but also contribute to the sustainable development of coastal tourism in Visakhapatnam. With a focus on cleanliness, safety, and enhanced amenities, Rushikonda and Sagar Nagar beaches are poised to become premier destinations for locals and tourists alike.
