Delivery platform Lieferando is expanding its business beyond restaurant deliveries. In the future, users will be able to have more technology products delivered from Saturn and Mediamarkt branches via Lieferando channels, as Lieferando announced on Friday. The brand, which belongs to the Dutch group Just Eat Takeaway, is perpetuating and expanding an existing collaboration with the retail chain. The Lieferando drivers have been delivering smaller products for short-term needs within the Berlin S-Bahn ring since May.

From this Friday, the product range in the capital will be significantly expanded and the offer will also be available in Leipzig and Dresden in the next few weeks. The delivery time of the products should be between 40 and 60 minutes and should take place directly from the Saturn or Mediamarkt stores.

Tough competition

The delivery service, which is primarily known for restaurant deliveries, has been trying to gain a foothold in other business areas for some time. In addition to technology items, this also includes supermarket products. To achieve this, Lieferando cooperates with, among others, its competitor Getir, which in Germany is primarily active in the so-called quick commerce sector, i.e. in the express delivery of food.

The delivery industry is highly competitive. The competitor Flink is primarily involved in the quick commerce business, while the Finnish company Wolt aims to become an “everything supplier” and not limit itself to one segment when it comes to the products it delivers.

The market is in transition. After the Turkish provider Getir took over its Berlin competitor Gorillas, the company withdrew from several European markets in the summer and also cut around 2,500 jobs in Germany.
