Farmers’ President Joachim Rukwied has reiterated that farmers should not allow themselves to be captured by the protests next week. “We don’t want right-wing and other radical groups with a desire for subversion at our demos,” Rukwied told “Bild am Sonntag”. “We are Democrats, and a political change is taking place – if it happens, then through voting in the voting booth.”
The farmers’ association wants to demonstrate against the federal government’s agricultural policy next week. Among other things, demonstrations and tractor convoys are planned. On Thursday evening, an action caused a stir in which farmers on the North Sea coast blocked a ferry pier and prevented Economics Minister Robert Habeck from going ashore.
Such actions harm political causes, said Rukwied. “We want to demonstrate peacefully and orderly next week.” Germany needs competitive agriculture so that local food can continue to be produced. They want to make it clear what farmers need for this.
