The American Express Gold Card comes with a number of advantages, including hotel and rental car discounts and a large travel insurance package with trip cancellation insurance, Europe-wide vehicle insurance and international health insurance.
The fees for the Amex Gold Card are twelve euros per month. New customers can currently secure a welcome bonus of 144 euros as starting credit. If you use this credit for the monthly fee, the credit card is free for the first year. However, the prerequisite is a card turnover of at least 4,500 euros in the first six months.
Instead of the starting credit, new customers can also choose 40,000 points for the Membership Rewards bonus program as a welcome bonus. Participation in this program is free for Amex Gold holders. For every euro spent with the card, you get one point, which can later be converted into benefits from partner programs, rewards or vouchers. Here too, a turnover of 4,500 euros in the first half of the year is a requirement.

Even if the annual fee for new customers is virtually eliminated in the first year, twelve euros per month are due for the American Express Gold Card from the second year onwards. If that’s too much for you, you might prefer the Barclays Gold Visa. The annual fee here is only 59 euros. However, there are no welcome bonuses or a bonus program.
Like the American Express Gold Card, the Barclays credit card is also interesting for those who travel abroad a lot. Premium benefits include a travel insurance package. This includes, among other things, trip cancellation and interruption insurance, international health insurance and advice on finding a doctor or lawyer abroad

Both the Amex Gold Card and the Barclays Gold Visa offer several benefits for globetrotters – whether for business or travel. If you don’t want to miss out on certain advantages such as a bonus program, you can currently even get an interesting new customer bonus from American Express. After a year, the fees are significantly higher than those of the Barclays credit card. This article contains so-called affiliate links. Further information are available here.
