The two Peugeot 3008 and 5008 models are powered by the well-known three-cylinder turbo engine with a displacement of 1.2 liters and an output of 100 kW / 136 hp and a maximum torque of 230 Nm. The small petrol engine is coupled to a newly developed, six-speed dual-clutch transmission, in which an electric motor is installed which, as a permanent magnet synchronous electric motor, has a maximum output of 21 kW / 28 hp and a torque of 55 Nm. The lithium-ion battery under the driver’s seat with 48-volt technology has a gross capacity of 898 Wh and an available capacity of 432 Wh. It has a guarantee period of eight years or 160,000 kilometers. Other models from the Stehlantis Group are to follow.

At low speeds without significant load requirements, the two French crossovers Peugeot 3008 and 5008 can drive or maneuver purely electrically. During normal driving, the electric motor supports the combustion engine with a boost function and thus also specifically reduces real consumption. When braking, it works as a generator that charges the hybrid system and, with its belt starter, also replaces the starter. The new mild hybrids have two separate power grids: a low-voltage grid with twelve volts to supply the vehicle electrical system and a high-voltage grid with 48 volts to supply the hybrid system. The electricity is generated exclusively by the 48V electric motor. A DC-DC converter transfers the electricity generated to the vehicle’s 12-volt network.

The new mild hybrid system should reduce the standard consumption by 15 percent or around one liter; in real operation, there will probably be significantly more savings, especially in the city center. In city traffic, the two Peugeot models should be able to drive purely electrically up to half the time. If the driver accelerates the front-wheel drive fully, the electric motor in the transmission housing can boost with a maximum of 9 kW / 12 hp. So the fun of driving is not neglected.
