Thaw between Lufthansa and the Vereinigung Cockpit pilots’ union: Collective bargaining is to be started soon at the previously untariffed subsidiary Eurowings Discover.
This is the start of a new phase in the social partnership, the union announced today. VC President Stefan Herth was confident that solutions would be found for the benefit of the employees and the company, which was founded just over a year ago. This will be a stabilizing factor, especially in difficult times.
So far, VC had always criticized the group for setting up new flight operations because they feared for employment at the Lufthansa core company. According to media reports, after the most recent pilots’ strike and the subsequent negotiations, Lufthansa gave up the plan to set up another flight operation in order to be able to offer supplier flights to the Frankfurt and Munich hubs at lower cost.
