weekend-weather-alert-solated-strong-to-severe-storms-threaten-friday-and-saturday

It was another rainy week, folks. Seems like the clouds just can’t get enough of us lately. The worst of it hit us on Wednesday, but don’t put those umbrellas away just yet. The weekend is coming, and it’s bringing along a storm threat with it. Keep an eye out for some strong-to-severe storms hanging around the tri-state area on Friday and Saturday.

Thursday tried to give us a break with some light showers, acting as a buffer between Wednesday’s downpour and the storms waiting for us on Friday. But let’s not get too comfortable just yet. Friday’s storms might make an appearance, but they’ll be scattered all over the place. The day will start off dry, so you won’t have to deal with any wet roads during your morning commute. However, be prepared for some possible fog creeping in for the second day in a row.

As we move into the late morning, a line of showers and storms will be making its way towards west New Jersey. These storms could bring heavy rain, strong wind gusts, and even some hail. But don’t worry too much, as the storms will weaken as they move across the region. By midday, when they reach the city, the rain will have calmed down to just a few showers.

There might be a few isolated storms popping up in the afternoon, but most of us should have a dry afternoon and evening ahead. Maybe we’ll even catch a glimpse of the sun shining through the clouds! If you’re planning on heading to the Subway Series on Friday night, you’re in luck. The game will be in the evening, after most of the showers and storms have passed. There’s a chance of a stray shower, but it’s unlikely to delay the game.

Saturday’s game might have a stormy forecast, but it’s not all bad news. Similar to Friday, the severe weather threat will hit in the morning, mainly to the west of New York City. Unlike Friday, though, Saturday’s storms could hold together as they move through the area, bringing heavy rain and strong winds to many of us. Fortunately, any morning storms will move quickly, so they won’t ruin the entire day. By the time the first pitch is thrown at 1:05 p.m., the storm threat will have diminished, with only a few isolated showers left. And by Saturday night, when a cold front sweeps through, the storm threat will be long gone.

If you’re looking for perfect baseball weather, Sunday is your day. The rain will be gone, and the sun will be shining once again. Even if you’re not a baseball fan, Sunday’s weather is too good to pass up. Get outside and enjoy it while you can. Rain totals through Saturday will be manageable, with the highest amounts expected in the western counties. Those areas might see up to an inch of rain, while closer to the city and Long Island, totals will be much lower.

The risk of flooding is low, but with the month starting off so wet, it wouldn’t take much more rain to cause some issues. Areas with higher rain totals, especially to the west, are under a marginal risk for flooding in the coming days. Once the sun comes out on Sunday, we’ll have several days of clear skies to enjoy. Soak it up, because we’re already looking at more rainy days on the horizon, possibly as soon as next week.
