New York – Virat Kohli, the former India captain, was the sole Indian player who was benched for the T20 World Cup warm-up game against Bangladesh. Despite missing the match, a particular moment caught the attention of fans on social media.
Kohli, who had arrived in New York late Friday night after a 16-hour flight journey from Mumbai, was rested for the warm-up game. During the match, where India dominated in both batting and bowling departments, Kohli was spotted casually admiring his six-pack abs on the sidelines. A video of this moment went viral on social media, with one user commenting, “Stop, it’s already 40 degrees.”
Expected to be part of the first batch of Indian players to travel to New York after IPL 2024, Kohli extended his break following Royal Challengers Bangalore’s exit in the IPL Eliminator. Despite missing practice sessions, Kohli joined the squad on Friday and was present at the stadium during the warm-up match.
While Kohli prepares for the T20 World Cup after a stellar IPL season, where he secured the Orange Cap with 741 runs, Rishabh Pant and Hardik Pandya shone in the warm-up game. Pant scored 53 off 32 balls, while Hardik contributed a quickfire 40 off 23 balls. Suryakumar Yadav also played a valuable knock, scoring 31 off 18 balls with four sixes.
The bowlers, led by Arshdeep Singh and Shivam Dube, put up a clinical performance, restricting Bangladesh to 122 for nine in 20 overs. India finished the warm-up match with a total of 182 for five in 20 overs.
