In the US state of Texas, five people have reportedly died after gunshots were fired in an apartment building. The suspect, who is said to have been armed with an AR-15 semi-automatic rifle, is being sought, US media reported, citing local police. The incident happened about 45 miles (about 72 km) northeast of Houston. Accordingly, San Jacinto County forces had received an emergency call late Friday evening (local time) about suspected shots in Cleveland, not far from the metropolis of Houston.

According to the Montgomery County Police Reporter, emergency services found four dead in the home and one other who died in hospital from gunshot wounds. According to the broadcaster ABC News, an eight-year-old child was among the victims.

The police therefore requested support from surrounding districts to look for the perpetrator. The suspect is a man known for emptying his gun in his own front yard, ABC News quoted statements from the San Jacinto County Sheriff’s Office. As a result, at least ten people were in the house when the police arrived. The population of the small town of Cleveland was asked to stay at home and away from the scene of the crime until further notice.
