us-citizen-receives-homeland-security-order-to-leave-country

So, get this, there’s this woman from Cromwell, Lisa Anderson, and she gets this crazy email from the Department of Homeland Security telling her to leave the United States. Like, what? She’s a U.S. citizen, born and raised, never been in trouble with the law. The email starts off all dramatic, saying, “It is time for you to leave the United States.” Seriously, who talks like that?

Lisa thought it was spam at first, but turns out it’s the real deal. She’s a physician living in Cromwell, born in Pennsylvania, so she’s like, how did my email end up on this list? Maybe someone’s messing around with a fake email, who knows. Now she’s walking around with her passport, scared of legal trouble, never thought she’d need an immigration attorney, but here we are.

“I don’t have anything to do with immigration and I never thought that I would have needed the services of an immigration attorney either, and that’s where I find myself,” she said.

And get this, two Boston immigration attorneys got the same email, they’re U.S. citizens too. DHS says it’s a mix-up, sending emails to the wrong folks without legal status. Like, what a mess. Lisa’s like, take this seriously, get legal help, don’t ignore it.

“It does make me concerned there’re a lot more people out there like me who probably also thought this was spam, who probably didn’t realize, ‘I have a problem,’” she said.

She wants to chat with those Boston attorneys, compare notes, see what’s up. We tried reaching out to DHS, no word back yet. Meanwhile, Cromwell Mayor and Sen. Matt Lesser are all fired up, calling it a huge mistake and demanding a fix. It’s a wild ride, folks. Just goes to show, even the government messes up sometimes.
