After the attack on police officers in Trier, a 16-year-old was arrested. In the morning, the apartments of a total of nine suspects were searched, police and prosecutors said on Wednesday. An arrest warrant was issued against the 16-year-old on Monday on suspicion of serious breach of the peace and assault on police officers as well as dangerous bodily harm.
The 16-year-old is to be brought before the investigating judge this Wednesday, who will decide whether the youngster will remain in custody. His home was also searched. The action should serve to find further evidence, said the police and prosecutors.
On the night of February 17, 2023, 13 police officers are said to have faced up to 40 attackers in front of the “Secret Club” discotheque, who are said to have attacked the officers with glass bottles, wooden sticks and shovels. The police had been alerted because of an assault. The situation escalated during the investigations on the square in front of the club.
Five police officers – a woman and four men – were injured, two of them by police pepper spray. When the situation escalated, a police officer fired two warning shots in the air, and police said numerous suspected attackers ran away. Two suspects were temporarily arrested.
A total of twelve suspects are being investigated, ten on suspicion of serious breaches of the peace, assault on police officers and dangerous bodily harm and two on suspicion of assault on police officers and bodily harm, the police and prosecutors said.
The police had set up an investigation team with around 100 officers to clarify the situation and asked for video submissions. Politicians in the state and federal government had sharply condemned the night attack. In the meantime, the investigative group has been reduced, said the police spokesman. Whether there will be further arrests depends on the course of the investigation.
