I’m not alone, Kurt Tucholsky’s famous complaint: “The dog is always barking. It barks when someone comes as well as when someone leaves – it barks in between, and when it has no reason, it barks at itself.”

What about mosquitoes?Their high-frequency whirring is insidious. But at least we know what they want from us. When noises are inexplicable, they can be particularly annoying.
