The mayor of Alicante, Luis Barcala, and the Councilor for the Environment, Manuel Villar, have participated in the act of homage to the pharmacy technician and later nurse, Francisco Jiménez López, who cared for the residents of the neighborhood for years when there was no Health Center in the area, and whose name now receives in his memory the park in the neighborhood of Virgen del Remedio.
Barcala has evoked the figure of the honoree and his vocation of service towards the people around him, “work he did with great humanity and sensitivity, because they were sick and needy people in times when public health did not reach all the neighborhoods of the city”.
The proposal was presented to the City Council by the Virgen del Remedio Neighborhood Association together with a short biography accompanied by more than a thousand signatures supporting the petition.
The Virgen del Remedio park, which from today is renamed Francisco Jiménez López, has been the subject of a renovation in recent months that has made it possible to improve the land areas, correcting the damage caused by runoff from the rains, renovating walls , curbs and its children’s area.
