So, there was this thing that happened in Ocean County, New Jersey, and guess what? A teenager, Joseph Kling, supposedly started a huge wildfire that’s been blazing away. Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley Billhimer was all like, “We know for sure he did it,” at a press conference on Thursday. Not really sure how they figured that out, but they’re all confident and stuff.
Billhimer didn’t want to spill all the beans on their investigative techniques, but he did mention some fancy technology that they used to track Kling down. Apparently, they caught him hanging out at the scene of the fire on April 22.
Kling, who’s 19 years old, went before a judge, and NBC10’s Brian Sheehan has all the juicy details on that. The fire burned a bunch of acres, messed up a business, and made roads close, even forcing people to evacuate. It’s not clear why Kling was setting pallets on fire, but he didn’t bother to put it out properly before he left. Silly move, if you ask me.
He’s hanging out in Ocean County Jail, waiting for a detention hearing. The public defender’s office is keeping their lips sealed about the whole thing, as they should. You know how it goes, innocent until proven guilty, right?
