The Global Organization of People of Indian Origin Connecticut Chapter (GOPIO-CT) launched its 2025 activities with a vibrant event on Friday, February 7th in Stamford. The evening was highlighted by the swearing-in ceremony of the newly elected Executive team, with President Mahesh Jhangiani at the helm. Connecticut State Senator Prof. Sujata Gadkar-Wilcox had the honor of administering the oath to the team, marking a significant moment for the organization.
Roots of Empowerment: GOPIO-CT’s Commitment to Community
The event not only celebrated the new leadership but also served as a platform to recognize Senator Gadkar-Wilcox’s groundbreaking victory in the November 2024 elections, solidifying her position as the first Connecticut state senator of Asian descent. Amidst the festivities, GOPIO-CT took the opportunity to give back to the community by presenting a generous $5,000 donation to Wheel It Forward, a local charity handpicked by the organization for its annual fundraising endeavors.
This act of philanthropy is not new to GOPIO-CT, as the chapter has a rich history of supporting various charitable causes. In the past, they have made substantial contributions of $25,000 each to the Norwalk Community College Foundation for scholarship programs, Future 5 for educational assistance to Stamford high school students, and the Society for Human and Environmental Development (SHED) for their impactful work in India. Additionally, attendees at the event pledged $2,000 towards sponsoring eight soup kitchens at the New Covenant House in Stamford, a heartwarming initiative that provides nourishing meals to around 100 individuals in need.
