Netflix’s price adjustments have often led to dissatisfaction among users in recent years. In Austria, the actions of the US streaming service now had consequences. Customers there recently received an email from Netflix saying: “You are entitled to a refund of 30 euros.” There was a “settlement agreement between Netflix International B.V. and the Austrian Federal Chamber of Labor in connection with our price increases in 2019 and 2020,” which is now having a positive impact on users.
The “flat-rate refund” is either 20 or 30 euros, it goes on to say. The Austrian Chamber of Labor also confirms Netflix’s actions. “Good news,” writes the chamber on X, formerly Twitter. “Following a lawsuit from the Federal Chamber of Labor (BAK), an agreement has now been reached with Netflix. Those affected have received an offer from Netflix by email for a flat-rate refund of membership fees. It was about price increases from 2019 and 2020.”
Users still have a little time to redeem the credit. They have until August 14th to claim the money. It is now normal for Netflix to increase its prices. The service’s premium subscription now costs 19.99 euros instead of 17.99 euros. The basic subscription recently increased in price from 7.99 to 9.99 euros.
Netflix also offers some premium content. Recently, several productions caused a stir. The new season of the historical series “Bridgerton,” for example. The first episodes of the new, third season reached 45.1 million views in the first weekend after the premiere. The series “Baby Reindeer”, which is based on true events, also recently caused a lot of conversation.
